Easy Christmas Scent Recipe -- Makes a Great DIY Gift
Here's a quick and easy Christmas gift you can make when you need just a "little something." It's great to go along with a gift card or even by itself when you're looking for something thoughtful, but can't spend too much.
This "Christmas scent" is perfect for anyone, and I have given it to teachers with gift cards and with handwritten cards from my children.
You might have made this at home, but putting the ingredients together is a nice touch for the recipient.
You'll need:
- One orange
- One lemon
- Cinnamon sticks
- Bay leaves
- Whole Cloves
- Cellophane-type wrap or small clear bags
- Curling ribbon
For each gift, use one orange, one lemon, three or four cinnamon sticks, several bay leaves, and several cloves. Wrap them up in your cellophane and tie them with a few pieces of ribbon--then curl. (By the way, dollar stores are a great place to pick up the ribbon and cellophane wrap.)
When you slice the orange and lemon and simmer all the ingredients in water, your whole house will smell amazing!
If you're making this at home for yourself, you can also just use orange and lemon peels (and eat the fruit). I promise you'll love the way your house smells.

This is a very unique idea for a gift. I think a homemade piece of Christmas is so much better than some retail piece of junk.
That's a great idea. I love the smell of orange to begin with. I'm going to try it. Thanks.
I love Christmas smells and all kinds of scents. This is wonderful and I thnak you for sharing. To make homemade is such a money saver too. :)

This will make some great presents - going to make some for the great grandmas - my mom is blind and has profound hearing loss - her sense of smell is so important to her now!
This is great and will make great stocking stuffers. I love scents that smell good and that make my home smell great too. This seems easy and not very expensive to do. Thanks for the great ideals!!!
i remember doing these when I was a kid and I really need to do these with my grandchildren. thank you for sharing and reminding me of these!
Love the idea! Now will look for pretty cellophane wraps.
Oh, wow! This'd be perfect for my apartment! I'm going to have to try it.
I wanted to ask if you just cut the orange and lemon in half when you put them in the water or in slices ?
