Prepare and File Your Simple Taxes FREE, Discounts for Other Filers, Tax Prep Checklist, & More!
It's tax time again. If you're expecting a refund, you might look forward to doing your taxes, but the process itself isn't exactly fun.
Whether you're expecting a check from the IRS, or you owe the government money, Turbo Tax can take away a LOT of the stress of tax time.
I've used their online program for the last several years, and they make it pretty easy. That's because the program walks you through a series of questions about your life to find out what deductions and forms will apply to your situation. They'll ask you for specifics when needed, and calculate and fill out all of the forms for you automatically.
If you're missing any information you're asked about, you can always come back to it. You're given a chance to review your information before it is e-filed.
There's also a place to ask questions about anything you're unsure about along the way.
If your taxes are fairly simple, Turbo Tax is free, and they'll file your federal return at no charge. They may ask for a fee to file your state return, but before you agree to that, check with your state department of revenue. Many states offer free e-filing or offer e-filing free to people with incomes below a certain level.
For those of us with more complicated returns, Turbo Tax is still the best bet speaking from my own experience.
As of the time I'm writing this, I'm seeing $20 to $25 off ALL Turbo Tax programs. You can click here to see the discounts.
And, if you're in Canada, check out Turbo Tax Canada here. Right now, you can take 10% off.
Here's some other interesting information I found from Turbo Tax (and some "just-for-fun" stuff):
* Tax Preparation Checklist *this is a good one
* 10 Oddball Tax Deductions

Master Lock and American Red Cross -- Tweet to Donate + a Twitter Party! #MasterLockProtects
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of the Global Influence Network. As always, all opinions are my own. See full disclosure policy here.
Some of the damage from the tornado in my hometown. |
The Red Cross was there almost immediately. One thing I remember my mom telling me they provided was vouchers for clothing. My house was heavily damaged, moved off its foundation, and all the windows were blown out. Glass was in everything, including the clothes. That means you don't have anything other than what you're wearing. I would have never thought of something like that until it happened to my family and people I knew.
Of course, now I take safety in bad weather very seriously, and I know disasters can happen to anyone.
When in your life has safety and security been most top of mind?
Tweet to Donate!
Through January 31, 2015, you can make a difference! All you have to do is tweet the answer to this question: When in your life has safety and security been most top of mind? with the hashtag #MasterLockProtects.
Master Lock Cares Twitter Party!
It's so easy to make your $1 donation with just a tweet! Thank you Master Lock and the Red Cross for everything you're doing to help families stay safe!

Winter Sports Enthusiasts, Check Out the StingRay!
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of StingRay Sport Products. As always, all opinions are my own. See full disclosure policy here.
Do you love winter sports? I'm from Minnesota, and some of my favorite childhood memories are of snowmobiling and snow tubing.
If you enjoy sports like these, or your family skis or snowboards, you know it's a blast! You also know you need the right gear. Besides the skis or boards, you bundle your kids up in their warm jackets, boots, and gloves.
Of course, to stay safe, you make sure your children wear helmets and goggles, and they're all set--until they take off the goggles and the elastic pulls them back across the helmet and you get the "Goggle Snap." Now the goggles are dangling somewhere behind your child, and they have such a hard time with their mittens or gloves on trying to find those goggles and get them back where they belong. Or may-be, because the goggles won't stay put, your child takes them off and they get scratched, broken, or even lost.
Helmets and goggles are important for our safety, so I'm glad I found an easy way for kids (and adults) to keep track of our goggles while we're having fun in the snow!
StingRay Sport Products has created the StingRay, a simple and super affordable solution to the problem of "Goggle Snap." The little triangular "StingRay" attaches to the top of your helmet and stops your goggles from sliding back across the helmet. You always know where your goggles are--not dangling behind you, not getting scratched, and not getting lost.
Check out the video to see how the StingRay stops the Goggle Snap!
The StingRay attaches to your helmet easily, comes in your choice of colors, and costs just $14.95 on their site or on Amazon. Grab one for every member of your family!
Keep up with the latest from StingRay on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

Make the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday a Day of Service
It's just a few days until the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, many of you will have the day off from work, and your children will be home from school.
Instead of staying home and relaxing, I hope everyone will consider using your time to volunteer.
In recent years, more and more people are using this holiday as an opportunity to be of service to others or to attend programs or events honoring Dr. King.
What better way to celebrate the life of this American hero, and if you have children, start a tradition of helping others?
There's a website that can help you find out where to volunteer on Monday. It's MLKDay.gov, and it's very easy to use.
Just enter your zip code on this page to find projects near you. If you don't see any opportunities listed, try any of your local non-profits, or just take your kids to the park and pick up litter, visit a nursing home, or call your local churches or schools and see if they have a need. You can also check your newspaper or local calendar of events for Martin Luther King Day activities.
Whatever you decide, I hope you'll consider not taking the day off, but will use the day to honor Dr. King in some way and pass on to your children the importance of this national holiday and Dr. King's legacy.
