Would You Consider a Home Exchange for Your Next Trip?
The freezing temperatures we've been in throughout most of U.S. has me wishing for a warm, sunny vacation.
Budgeting for a long, relaxing trip is always difficult though. In the last several years, our family has saved money by renting a condo or house on our beach vacations.
And, if you're like me, when you're visiting someplace new, you don't want to go to the same chain restaurants you have at home or shop at the same
stores. You want to experience the place you're
visiting. Living in a neighborhood, rather than a tourist area, is a
great way to do just that.
Many people also swear by home exchanges. This is also a great way to "feel at home" while you're on vacation.
Trading homes with another traveler, or home exchanges is becoming more popular for many reasons: the savings compared to staying in a hotel while on vacation; you can often bring your pet, rather than board it; it's a great way to check out a city you're considering relocating to; those attending major events, like the Olympics, often choose a home swap; and some people swap homes while job hunting in a new area.
There are lots of resources for a home exchange, and I think it would be a great way to experience a new destination.
One of my Facebook friends has participated in a couple of home exchanges, and has had very gracious hosts who have left her wonderful instructions about the best shops, cafes, grocery stores, etc. She does the same for her guests.
It might not be for everyone, but if you are a little adventurous and want to truly experience your temporary "home," check out a home exchange. If you're wondering where to start, here's one resource: visit website.

I Won a Twitter Giveaway!
If you scroll down just a little from this post, you'll see another post about a product I discovered on Twitter.
Something--or someplace--else I found on twitter was the Ocean Isle Inn. There was a giveaway going on for a weekend stay there, and I entered, thinking it would be a great weekend at the beach. It's in North Carolina, and so am I.
I couldn't believe it when I won. My family and I spent our two days there earlier this month.
I just want to thank the website ThingsMomsLike.com and the Ocean Isle Inn for our wonderful getaway! The Ocean Isle Inn is right on the beach, and while the weather wasn't totally cooperative, we were able to get in the water one afternoon. We also enjoyed just sitting on the beach and taking walks on the shore while collecting shells with the kids. There's also an indoor and outdoor pool, which was great.
Did I mention our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean? Each morning, the first thing I did was open the door so I could hear the waves. Our room's large window overlooked the beach too. It's just amazing, and makes me want to live at the beach more than ever.
If you're ever on the North Carolina coast, look up the Ocean Isle Inn.
Here are some photos from our trip. (You can click any photo to enlarge. I love the second one.)

I Took ONE Pair of Shoes on a 10-Day Trip -- Can You Guess What They Were?
We've been home from our ten-day trip back to the Midwest (where my husband and I are from) for about five days now. I think we're finally all unpacked and almost back to normal.
We flew with our two boys, who are 13 and nine, for the first time, and packing for the plane was difficult. It was especially hard to stay within United's 50-pound weight limit for checked bags, and figure out what we'd carry on the plane. Looking back, we would have been better off to buy a couple of extra carry-ons and not check anything. It cost $20 per checked bag each way, but we'll do better next time.
Anyway, I had to post about the ONE pair of shoes I brought on the trip. It saved room in the luggage not to pack extra shoes, they're super quick and easy to remove at the airport, and they went with everything I wore while on vacation. (Well, there was one exception--I bought some "fancy" flip-flops to go with a sundress while I was there.) But, I did only bring the shoes on my feet on this trip.
What are these amazing shoes? My trusty black Crocs - mary jane style. I don't wear the big clunky ones, but I love this smaller style and I spent 10 days in them very comfortably.
And, no I didn't get a free pair for writing this (unless someone wants to send me some), I am not doing a giveaway, or being paid to tell you I wore these shoes every day for 10 days.
I'll keep wearing them, and in fact, just ordered these flip-flops for my husband, and I'm thinking about this new style for myself.

Right now, Crocs has a buy one, get one 1/2 off sandals sale, and its outlet always has deals up to 50% off if you're already a Crocs lover or want to give them a try!
