Six Ways to Save By Eating at McDonalds
McDonalds isn’t known for its healthy menu items; it’s known
for selling quick, cheap, and filling food that hundreds of millions of people
around the world have tried at least once in their lives. If money is tight and
you’re a busy parent or professional who’s always on the go, then McDonalds –
when eaten in moderation – is an affordable and convenient way to save on meals.
Coffee
Did you know you can get really great coffee from McDonalds
for considerably less than what you’d pay at Starbucks? Some people argue the
quality isn’t as good, but according to a Consumer Reports blind taste test, McDonalds coffee tastes better than Starbucks!
Furthermore, according to #HackTheMenu,
McDonalds charges between $1.00 and $1.69 for its small through large roasted
blends while Starbucks charges $1.75 to $2.25 for its tall through venti
roasted blends. As for iced coffee, McDonalds once again beats out Starbucks
with prices ranging from $1.00 to $2.49, while Starbucks’ prices range from
$1.95 to $2.95.
Salads
Just because it’s a salad doesn’t mean it’s automatically
healthy, especially if it’s coming from a fast food place like McDonalds.
Still, if your veggie-loving side is hankering for a good salad, McDonalds’
salads cost anywhere from $1 for a side salad with dressing to $4.79 for the
Premium Southwest Salad with chicken. This is cheaper than almost every
non-fast food restaurant and cheaper than many of its competitors in the fast
food industry such as Chick Fila, where salads go for $2.39 for a side salad to
$5.99 for the chargrilled chicken and fruit salad.
Dollar Menu
McDonalds has an entire dollar menu devoted to breakfast
items alone (fruit & yogurt parfait, sausage McMuffin, hash browns, 2
McGriddle cakes to name a few), plus a wider dollar menu item that includes
things you’d never find for just a dollar at other restaurants, such as a side
salad, chicken burgers, and McDouble burgers. This menu was made for people tight
on cash who want more variety than ramen and beans, so take advantage of the
low prices here instead of paying significantly more for similar menu items
elsewhere.
Meal Deals
In addition to its favorable dollar menu, McDonalds has
several different “Extra Value Meal” deals in which you can get a whole meal –
burger, fries, and a drink – for $3.69 to $5.99 (price varies depending on
which burger you choose). The cheapest option is the cheeseburger meal, while
at the other end of the price spectrum is the club chicken sandwich meal.
Coupons
McDonalds’ savings aren’t limited to its already-low menu
prices; there are often coupons you can find in the newspaper, other local
publications, or online through sites such as SumoCoupon for deals such as “Buy one
_____, get one free” and the like.
Desserts
McDonalds offers a $1 vanilla cone, something you might pay
double for elsewhere. There are also sundaes (average $1.19 each), McFlurries
($1.69 for a small, $2.39 for a regular), and 3 cookies for $1. It may not seem
super-cheap, unless you take your family out for ice cream from a
dessert-centric restaurant and end up paying over $4-5 per person for a simple
shake or sundae. McDonalds’ quality may not meet the level of these types of
places, but when it comes to pricing, the golden arches can’t be beat.

I love McD's McFlurries & it is a cheaper, very yummy, alternative to going to Rita's Water Ice or your local custard stand. Luv!
