North Carolina is one of the most beautiful states you can visit. I have been lucky enough to live here for the past several years. With the ocean at one end of the state, we love to take a summer beach trip every year if we can. In the fall, we try to make a trip to mountains on the other side of the state. Having both the ocean and the mountains within driving distance is a luxury few people have.

The Great Smoky Mountains are at the eastern end of North Carolina and are gorgeous, whether you're just driving through, planning a day trip or a hike, or taking a longer vacation. If you live in that part of the state, you'll find that there's so much to do at any time of year, but the fall is when the mountains are really breathtaking.

You can a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike the Appalachian Trail, or see some historic sites, and fall is the ideal time to plan your outing or trip. The weather shouldn't be too cold, and the fall colors will be at their best. Just bring a camera with plenty of memory and extra batteries.

If you're planning a fall vacation, North Carolina's Great Smoky Mountains would be a great destination. Asheville is also a favorite spot for travelers with the Biltmore Estate high on the list of tourist stops. Check out VisitNC.com to plan a visit anywhere in the state.

Once you see these gorgeous North Carolina mountains, you may never want to leave! If you've ever considered buying a property in the mountains, you can read more here about a golf and family community that will be like your own little piece of heaven. It's nestled right in the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the the flowing Cullasaja River, a trio of waterfalls, an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, and nearby you'll find Ravenel Lake, and the Nantahala National Forest. It looks like such a friendly and relaxing place to be!

Have you ever been to the North Carolina mountains?
