What Should You Look for When Choosing a Summer Camp for Your Kids?
Summer's almost here. Are your kids asking about going to summer camp? It can be a wonderful experience for children of all ages. They get out of the house of course and get to meet new friends, enjoy the outdoors, and learn some new skills.
It may also be the first time, or one of the first times, they are away from home. Choosing the right camp is an important decision. How do you know which one is best for your child?
If you do a search online, you'll see there is no shortage of summer camps. Here are a few things you'll want to consider as you sort through them all.
1. Safety: As a parent, safety has to be first and foremost on your mind. So, how do you know that a summer camp will be safe for your child? Here are some questions to ask: Are their staff members background-checked? Do they have first-aid and CPR training? Ask about lifeguards. Is there a nurse or medical professional on staff? What is the procedure in case of a medical emergency? Be sure that you are comfortable with the answers to these questions.
2. What activities does the camp offer: Your child will be most interested in what activities they'll be participating in at camp. As you do your research, any good summer camp write up will let you know how they'll be keeping your child busy and active. Swimming, hiking, horseback riding, and crafts are common, but if your child has a special interest or talent, look for a camp that offers lessons or instruction in that activity. There are camps for kids interested in drama, art, music, acting, and all kinds of sports. Chateaugay Summer Camp is one camp that offers a large variety of programs beyond swimming and hiking.
3. Cost: Cost shouldn't be your first consideration, but you want to make sure that you are getting a good value for your money. What are the camp facilities like? Is there a well-qualified staff? Are there lots of activities to keep your child busy and learning? If so, you may feel a higher price tag is justified. If not, you won't feel you're getting a good deal.
As you pack up your child to head off to camp, you'll want to make a list of things to bring to camp--and if you're like most parents, prepare to miss your child more than they miss you! They'll most likely be so busy having fun, they won't have much time to think of anything else.

Weekend Wind Down Link Party -- Week #16
Welcome to the Weekend Wind Down Link Party. I have had a crazy week! My son had surgery yesterday. It was a planned surgery on his foot and ankle, but it was fairly involved. He is home today and asleep right now. But you know when you're a parent, that when your child has any kind of surgery or health scare, it makes you very nervous. It all went well, so now we just have a bit of a long recovery. There will be lots of movie-watching and video games most likely!
I hope your week was a little less eventful. If you've been blogging, I hope you'll link up a post below. When you link up at the Weekend Wind Down Party, your link is seen across several blogs with different audiences. This gives you great exposure for your post and your site.
The link party is live all weekend, so let's see your best posts--and please feel free to share this linky with your friends. We want to see your DIY, craft, foodie, decorating, inspirational, techie, frugal, and homemaking posts. (As always, no giveaways or advertisements.)
Check out the featured posts we've chosen from last week's link-up below. These featured links are pinned to Pinterest and get social media shout-outs! So, link up your posts, and check out some great new blogs.
Were You at The Johnson & Johnson Brands / CVS Twitter Party?
This post brought to you by Triad Retail Media. All opinions are 100% mine.
I had the honor of drawing the prize winners throughout the party, and it is a great feeling to get to tell (or tweet) someone they've won a prize!
Since Johnson and Johnson is all about family, many of you shared photos of your JOHNSON’S® families--from your little ones, to grandparents, to your summer fun photos. That was another highlight of the party. Who doesn't love to look at photos of adorable little babies?
What I've always loved about Twitter is the conversation. And since we had such a big turnout for the Twitter party, I have to say the conversation was pretty fast-paced. If you were there, you know the time flew by.
I hope if you were at the CVS / Johnson and Johnson party, you had a blast, and if you were a Twitter party newbie, you will attend some more parties.
I want to thank everyone who took the time out of their day to spend with @DealSeekingMom and me as we brought you a great deal from CVS and Johnson and Johnson. We enjoyed handing out prizes and love that so many of our followers and friends hopped on Twitter to chat with us!

Check Out Mercersburg Summer Programs for Your Kids + an Exclusive Discount
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Mercersburg Academy. As always, all opinions are my own. See full disclosure policy here.
Mercersburg’s adventure camp takes kids ages 6-16 on a wild ride they will talk about for years. Variety is the spice of life, and at Adventure Camp, variety is an understatement. Camp adventures include trips to Hersheypark, white water rafting and a professional sports game. The camp’s unique structure provides just the right balance of enrichment challenges, sports, outdoor adventures, and fun trips to make every session wild, wonderful, and memorable.
Adventure camp is not all that is happening at Mercersburg. The young writers camp allows participants to build writing skills and unleash creativity in a unique environment of like-minded individuals with a passion for writing. This enrichment camp allows for young students to explore the beauty of poetic style and the power of their own voice on paper. Language is at the core of life and Mercersburg campers learn new and liberating ways to express themselves through the written word.
The summer theatre and dance workshops by Mercersburg Summer Programs allow students to improve their preforming arts. A school that has helped to produce two Academy Award winners helps campers to explore and expand their interest in the many elements of theatre in one dynamic week that brings the stage and young people together. Young performers gain skills in improvisation, stage presence, body movement, vocal techniques, character development, ensemble work and problem solving. This unique experience exposes actors to the technical elements of lighting, sound, make-up and costume design.
Mercersburg’s Summer Dance Workshop is a dynamic one-week program that will inspire dancers to learn different movement styles as well as discovering their own. Campers will experience a range of multiple classes from ballet and contemporary to improvisation, yoga and choreography. Expert instruction combined with creative and innovative workshops will insure that dancers will leave Mercersburg’s state of the art Burgin Center with a renewed passion for dance.
On the sport side of summer camps, Mercersburg Swim Clinics are dedicated to improving campers’ technique and helping them to develop as a swimmer both inside and outside of the pool. Mercersburg
Academy’s storied aquatics program has produced over 30 Olympians and brings a tradition of excellence to their summer program. Clinic Director, Pete Williams, has been a part of four Olympic games as a swimmer, coach or official and brings a wealth of knowledge to the program.
For more information about Mercersburg Summer Programs, visit www.MercersburgSummer.com. Plus, when you use promo code MOMSWHOSAVE15 you can take 15% off all summer programs. Don't miss this chance to give your kids a summer of fun and wonderful opportunties!

Bloggers, Check out Moms Affiliate, a New Affiliate Network -- Also Offering Sponsored Posts & More!
Are you a mom and a blogger, or do you have a blog with an audience of moms? Then you'll want to keep reading.
Are you monetizing your blog with affiliate links, banners, and sponsored posts? May-be you belong to several networks, each offering something different. It can get crazy trying to keep them all straight.
I've recently discovered a network that offers sponsored posts, affiliate relationships with sites that your audience will want to shop, a referral program, and if your audience loves a deal (like mine does), you just click one link to see all the available coupon banners. This network is Moms Affiliate.
Their sign-up process is quick and easy, and one thing I'm loving already is that the platform is so easy to use. There are other networks I've signed up with and quit using almost immediately because their sites were so difficult to navigate. This is not the case with Moms Affiliate.
I have only joined a few merchant's programs so far, but there's a variety of programs for women and children on the site, from jewelry to baby clothes--and some I haven't seen anywhere else. By the way, the application process for the individual merchants was easy, and approval was quick.
One other thing I haven't seen anywhere else is a very cool social sharing option. You can look through your merchants products and then choose to share them on Facebook or Twitter with the click of a button. This is really convenient.
If you're looking for more options in monetizing your blog, check out Moms Affiliate.

Fresh Salsa With Avocado -- Easy Recipe!
If you use store-bought salsa, you are missing out. Here is my husband's recipe for salsa. Everything is fresh, and I think you love it. We use this on tacos, nachos, and anything you'd put salsa on. It would also be great on black bean or any kind of burgers.
Depending on how spicy you like your salsa, you can experiment with the amount of jalapeno you use. I like a medium salsa, and this is not too spicy for me. If you don't like avocado, you can leave that out, and this will still be delicious.
This is an easy recipe. Just mix together:
3 or 4 Roma tomatoes -- diced
1/2 bunch cilantro -- chopped
1 small red onion -- diced
2 chives -- diced
1 jalapeno pepper -- diced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 medium avocado -- diced (optional)
juice of 1 lime
Click for printable recipe.
